Why doesn’t the business world trust implementation firms? How can we make better architectural decisions? And can energy constraints halt the development of AI? These were among the questions raised on September 25 and 26 at the Białystok University of Technology during Programistok 2026. This year’s edition of the conference combined IT and business tracks. Karol Wakulewski from our team was in attendance.

Implementations Through the Eyes of the Customer

The business track kicked off with a presentation by Adam Piotrowski, CEO of 2N IT, titled “Business Doesn’t Trust Us—and I Don’t Blame Them at All.” In it, he presented the world of implementations from the customer’s perspective. The industry heard a few well-deserved remarks, as some bad practices are still going strong.

Architecture is about decisions, not diagrams

There was a lot of talk about architecture in the technical track. In his presentation titled “Context Maps—An Architect’s Decision-Making Tool,” Kamil Kiełbasa argued that architecture isn’t just rectangles and arrows, but decisions and boundaries of responsibility.

In his talk titled “Just in Time Architecture – Architecture as Code Using Backstage,” Grzegorz Wilczura demonstrated how to ensure that documentation evolves alongside the project, rather than slowly dying on Confluence. Wojciech Kasa from MAK IT, in turn, spoke about Residuality Theory—that is, how to find a system’s weak points before production does.

What Are the Limits of AI Development?

And since no conference is complete without AI these days... In his talk titled “The Human vs. the LLM: Measuring AI Efficiency,” Oleksandr Lysenko compared the energy efficiency of the human brain and AI (the “cyborgs” won this one 😉). However, he also highlighted the other side of the coin: the scale of infrastructure required to run language models. In doing so, he posed the question: when will infrastructure and energy constraints slow down—or perhaps even halt—the development of AI?

Thank you to the organizers and speakers for two wonderful days. Here’s hoping there will be as many events like this as possible in Podlasie!

Key Conclusion

Programistok 2026 demonstrated that discussions about technology benefit when the business community is involved. Architecture is, above all, about decisions, and the further development of AI may increasingly depend on available infrastructure and energy.
